US Border Patrol Station - Riviera Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida

Property Description

In 2004 the Firm completed the US Border Patrol Station in Riviera Beach Florida. This 40,000 square foot building was completed in seven months. Built an additional five feet above the flood plan code (at additional expense to the developer) the development proved to be a safe haven in the aftermath of three hurricanes. The strength and durability of the building was proven soon after completion as it weathered hurricanes Francis, Jean and Wilma. While other nearby facilities were without power and flooded including the Coast Guard Station, this building was fully operational within 48 hours after the storm. Birchwood's principal had the equipment and expertise to repair the minimal damage to the property at a time when these services were unavailable through traditional means. With nearly all services and commerce stopped in Palm Beach County for the weeks after each storm, the Border Patrol station was never out of service. Immigration & Naturalization Office - Tampa, Florida

Property Description

In 1998 the Tampa Immigration Office was completed. The entire building is 52,000 square feet on six acres with 26,000 square feet of office space and secured, enclosed parking with 65 spaces. The project, completed prior to the LEED certification process, includes several energy efficient innovations. Considered cutting-edge at the time, these features include a Geo-thermal HVAC system and energy efficient lights. Environmentally conscious, the developer was able to find a new use for a former landfill. Pilings driven into the site's bedrock raise the building above the landfill while an innovative system redirects methane gas. The developer did much of the site work themselves resulting in considerable savings. All of this work was done in some of the most challenging development conditions the area has ever experienced. Flooding and record rains were prevalent during nearly the entire development process. Despite the conditions of the record rain months of "El Nino" the project was completed in just seven months.
